Board Committees are typically chaired by a Board member and consist of Board members, staff, and interested volunteers from the community.  These committees are accountable to the Board and help to research and develop policy and recommend major policies/initiatives to the Board for approval as appropriate. Committees meet monthly or quarterly depending on their agendas.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is chaired by the Treasurer and is accountable to the Board of Directors. The Committee is responsible for reviewing the Association’s financial statements, ensuring that timely and accurate statements are presented to the Board, and reporting any financial irregularities, concerns or opportunities. The Committee reviews the Association’s operating budgets prior to Board approval and reviews business plans for the respective operating departments of the YWCA. IT is also responsible for recommending financial policies and policy revisions, ensuring that an independent certified audit  of the Association’s finances is conducted annually, and overseeing the real property of the Association.      
Meets: Fourth Tuesday of every month 

Human Resources Committee
This Human Resources Committee is responsible for recommending human resource management policies and policy revisions to the Board for approval. This includes reviewing and making recommendations regarding employee relations and other human capital matters; reviewing annually the Association’s salary structure and making appropriate recommendations; and reviewing recommended changes in the organization’s benefits package. The Committee also reviews formal written grievances against the CEO or when an employee formally appeals a decision by the CEO to the Board of Directors.

Women’s Empowerment Committee                                                                            
Premised on the principle that "Knowledge is Power,” the Women's Empowerment Committee is responsible for providing resource and networking events for women of all ages and economic backgrounds; and providing women facing changes in their personal and professional lives with critical information and support to manage career, finances, and create lifelong health and wellness. 
Meets: 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of every month

Public Relations and Marketing Communications Committee                                           
The Public Relations and Marketing Communications Committee is responsible for recommending initiatives to the Board for improving the image of the YWCA Bergen County and ensuring that the YWCA continues to promote and support its Mission (Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women.) This includes reviewing all messaging and branding, overseeing media relations activities, and conducting research as needed, as well as alerting the Board to opportunities for generating positive media coverage for the Association. 
Meets: Monthly (in person or via teleconference)

Board Development Committee
The Board Development Committee is responsible for recruiting, nominating, orienting and training members of both the Board of Directors throughout the year. This includes soliciting names of potential nominees from the membership, staff, and members of the Board and ensuring that collectively the Board has the range of skills, experiences and connections necessary to be effective and reflects the diversity of the community it serves. This Committee also recommends a slate of officers for Board approval and suggests non-Board members for committee membership.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is comprised of the Officers of the Board of Directors (President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) and the CEO, and chaired by the President of the Board. The Executive Committee has the duties and powers of the Board between regularly scheduled meetings, and may take action outside of these meetings when required. The Committee is responsible for providing guidance and proposing annual goals for to the Board for approval, as well as reviewing and presenting to the Board the organization’s strategic planning goals. The Committee also evaluates the CEO’s performance annually and recommends the CEO’s annual compensation to the Board.

Investment Advisory Committee                                                                                           
The Investment Advisory Committee has been delegated authority by the Board of Directors for fiduciary aspects of the investment management of all trust funds and endowment funds of the Association.                                                                                                                                       
Meets: Periodically (no less frequently than semi-annually)

Fund Development Committee
The Fund Development Committee is responsible for overseeing the fund development efforts of the YWCA Bergen County, understanding the Fund Development Business Plan, and assisting with its implementation as needed. This includes assisting with donor cultivation, helping to secure corporate and foundation support, and communicating with, encouraging, and involving all Board members in the fundraising efforts of the organization.

Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee is responsible for advocating for public policies that serve our communities, enhance our programs, and fulfill our mission. The Committee recommends to the Board specific issues to be adopted by the YWCA, conducts policy execution activities throughout the year, and reports them to the Regional Advocacy Committee. Activities include encouraging participation in both policy development and policy execution, and building local capacity in advocacy and public policy by recruiting local YWCA advocates.

TWIN Corporate Challenge Committee                                                                                 
The TWIN Corporate Challenge Committee is responsible for planning, overseeing, and implementing all fundraising efforts that pertain to the annual Tribute to Women and INdustry event (largest fundraiser of the year.) This includes networking with community members to attend event and helping to secure corporate support.
