advocacy
Social Action and Advocacy have been the foundation of the YWCA since our inception 150 years ago. The YWCA works to improve social and economic conditions for all people in communities throughout the U.S. The YWCA is the nation’s oldest and largest national multi-cultural women's movement, comprised of more than 300 local associations, regional leadership and a national office in Washington D.C., all working together to strengthen our voices in the nation’s capital and in state and local governments.

The YWCA brings first hand knowledge of how federal level policies and programs affect women, girls and their families in communities across the country. The YWCA continues its long tradition in social action and advocacy working towards our mission to empower women and girls and eliminate racism.

The YWCA of Bergen County now has an active advocacy program committed to advocating for those issues that impact the lives of women and girls throughout Bergen County. The issues we’ve chosen to advocate for have been approved by our Board of Directors. We urge to join us and make your voice be heard. For complete information and to participate in any of our many programs, contact Amy in our Advocacy Office at 201-487-2224 or email aburger@ywcabergencounty.org.

Join us as we take action on the following issue(s):
Protect Social Security From Privatization
Social Security is an important income source for millions of women. Social Security provides dependent benefits to spouses, divorced spouses, elderly widows, widows with young children and is the only source of retirement for 29 percent of unmarried elderly women.
Please contact your Senators and Representative and urge them to oppose plans to privatize Social Security and to protect Social Security's full, guaranteed, inflation adjusted lifetime benefits.
