ywjobs: Rape Crisis Center - Americorps Member (Volunteer)/(Advocate)

  • Provide direct services to survivors of sexual assault, their families and significant others on the hotline, in-person for crisis intervention and accompaniments at hospitals, prosecutor’s office, police stations, the court and at the RCC office.
  • Provide assistance to survivors and significant others during the Sexual Assault Response Team activation.
  • Provide educational presentations regarding sexual abuse and sexual violence, consent and communication and prevention to middle/high schools, college and community settings.
  • Provide accurate documentation of client services and also meet reporting obligations as required by the organization.
  • Assist in coordinating SAFE Coalition, Green Dot strategy of Bystander Intervention, Prepertration Prevention goal for Bergen County. Training for Green Dot model provided.


Necessary Qualifications:   

  • High school and 40+ hours of sexual assault and violence training as provided by the Rape Crisis Center (can also train while on the job),
  • Comfortable working with individuals in distress and with those who have experienced sexual assault or those connected to a sexual assault survivor. 
  • Passion for the cause of elimination of violence,
  • Distance from prior own sexual assault of at least two years with appropriate intervention (with consideration by the Director of a 6month-2year period with appropriate intervention and beyond two years without intervention). 
  • Must have good organizational skills, math and tracking skills
  • PC and computer literate; ALICE Database knowledge helpful.
  • Become Americorps Member; necessary periodic attendance at Americorps meetings.
