April 23, 2018—YWCA Bergen County invites rising high school sophomore girls to apply for the 2018-2019 class of Empower U(niversity): Girls Leadership Academy (ywcabergencounty.org/empower-u). Empower U is a 10-month, small-group mentorship and empowerment experience with sessions twice a month designed to educate and engage high school sophomore girls through experiential learning, leadership lessons, and social action. Topics include empowered leadership, financial literacy, STEM, self-awareness, civic engagement, mind and body wellness, and media literacy.
Empower U equips young women with the tools they need to balance themselves physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Meaningful programming and community service projects will empower teen girls to be confident, college-bound, and career-ready. Mentoring sessions are held every month with professional women who are experts in their fields. Offsite visits to local corporations and community nonprofit organizations add hands-on learning opportunities for participants.
YWCA Bergen County believes that every girl has the ability to become a great leader. Empower U will help participants realize this within themselves so that they can flourish throughout high school, college, and beyond.
Applications are available at bit.ly/2KbaKYD and are due by Friday, May 18, 2018 at 5:00pm. The cost of the program is $100 (scholarships available). For more information, please contact Caitlyn George at 201-201-881-1733 or [email protected].
