The YWCA provides American Red Cross swimming lessons to swimmers from age six to adults. Group and parent /child classes are available for children 6 months to 5 yrs. old. Class sizes are limited to insure safety and maintain a high quality of instruction.
All participants must:
1. NJ state law requires swimmers to shower before
entering pool.
2. Use locker rooms or changing booth facilities.
3. Remove street shoes before entering the pool deck.
4. Enter hallways dry.

First time swimmers or those uncomfortable in the water build confidence while learning the fundamentals of swimming, water adjustment, kicking and floating.

level 2 - ages 11 to 14 yrs.
Those who can already swim 10 yards on their front and back learn arm strokes and breathing skills while coordinating front and back strokes.

junior swim clinic - ages 8 to 16 yrs.
Advanced swimmers learn the butterfly stroke, swimming starts, turns and other competitive skills. Participants must have completed Level 6.

One hour of open lap swimming just for teen girls, providing a comfortable environment for a leisurely swim or to challenge

Develop stroke refinement, strength, stamina and the skills necessary to make rescues. Great preparation for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course.

american red cross water instructor safety course
ages 16 yrs. or older
Students are certified to teach American Red Cross swim lessons. Learn to make lesson plans, teach skills for all levels and critique skills to correct swim strokes.

Adults can finally learn to overcome their fear of the water with instructors specifically trained to help adults of all ages learn and feel comfortable in the water for the first time.

level 1 - shallow water basics
First-time swimmers who are comfortable in the water and with submerging learn breath control, floating techniques and arm strokes.

level 2 - swim progression
Learn breathing techniques and coordinating the frontcrawl and back stroke. Class begins in shallow waters and progresses to the deep end.

level 3 - deep water basics
Continue the front crawl while building endurance and learning the breast, back crawl and other advanced strokes. An ideal class for lap swimmers looking to polish their strokes.
